If there is a narrowing or stenosis of the biliary system due to tumor, stones, or infections, cholangioplasty may be performed to widen the bile duct(s) and facilitate biliary drainage. Depending on the patient's overall prognosis/condition, a metal stent may be placed to keep the biliary system open.
